Hydro Flask 32 oz vs 40 oz

November 16, 2020 by Ricky 1 Comment

Hydro Flask 32 oz wide mouth is more popular than Hydro Flask 40 oz wide mouth because of it's more convenient size.

No doubt, one of the essential things for an outdoor activity is packing the right amount of beverages, and if you’re looking for a quality flask for that purpose, it’s very common to end up searching for the Hydro Flask. In this article, I will be reviewing and comparing Hydro Flask 32 oz vs 40 oz wide mouth to help you to pick the most suitable size for you.

In summary, the main differences between the two sizes are their capacity and height, 40 oz model is 1.8″ taller than the 32 oz. So, If you’re not thinking of carrying your bottle in your backpack all day long, Hydro Flask 40 oz is great, you don’t need to refill it three times a day, but Hydro Flask 32 oz is the more popular and the main reason is it’s a more convenient size, it offers enough capacity for taking with you to the gym or a hike without the need of refilling again.

Hydro Flask 32 oz Wide Mouth Review

Hydro Flask 32 oz Wide Mouth offers optimum capacity for one-day activities, thus making it very popular over the last years.

  • VOLUME: 946 mL
  • MOUTH DIAMETER: 2.26″ / 5.74 cm
  • DIAMETER: 3.58″ / 9.09 cm
  • HEIGHT: 9.4″ / 23.87 cm
  • EMPTY WEIGHT: 15.2 oz / 430 gr

Since it offers the optimum capacity for daily sports or one-day activities Hydro Flask 32 oz Wide Mouth has become very popular over the last years, it’s very common to see it in the hands at the campus, at your gym, and even during hiking outdoors (even though it’s a little bit heavy for hiking adventures).

The reason is, not only it offers enough amount of capacity (32 oz) for one-day activities, but also it’s durable enough to last a lifetime (offers a lifetime Warranty) and does a great job keeping your beverages at your desired temperatures, and let’s face it, it looks darn good.

And also, Hydro Flask features Tempshield insulation technology to keep your beverages cold up to 24 hours and hot up to 12 hours.

I can hear you say that “But these are already offered in all Hydro Flask products. In what conditions should you buy the 32 oz size?”

  • Hydroflask 32 oz offers large enough volume to avoid having to stop halfway through to refill your bottle while exercising.
  • Likewise, if you’re into hiking long miles, Hydro Flask 32 oz offers enough capacity to keep you hydrated for a long lime but keep in mind that it’s a bit heavy for hiking especially when it’s fulled, so if you like to hike in places where you can access water and refill your bottle easily 32 oz Hydroflask would be unnecessarily big for you, but if you like to hike in places where accessing water is not very easy, then 32 oz Hydro Flask is what you should go for.

Hydro Flask 40 oz Wide Mouth Review

Hydro Flask 40 oz Wide Mouth is keeps hot beverages hot up to 12 hours, and cold ones up to 24 hours.

  • VOLUME: 1.182 mL
  • MOUTH DIAMETER: 2.26″ / 5.74 cm
  • DIAMETER: 3.58″ / 9.09 cm
  • HEIGHT: 11.2″ / 28.45 cm
  • EMPTY WEIGHT: 17.6 oz / 500 gr

The second biggest bottle after the Hydro Flask 64 oz, Hydro Flask 40 oz also has a wide mouth as well and it’s the perfect option for those who need more than 1 Liter of liquid.

Unless you’re a very big, strong fellow who doesn’t mind carrying extra heavy and bulky gear, 40 oz size would be too big for outdoor activities, if you’re in the market for mainly outdoor activities then go for 32 oz Hydro Flask or maybe an even smaller size (depending on your refilling schedule).

But, this size is perfect if you’re not gonna carry it all day long in your backpack, you can fill it with hot coffee and take it with you to your boat, or in the summer you can fill it with cold beverages and take it to the beach.

I will get into details of every feature one by one below, but it’s important to mention that, just like the 32 oz version, Hydro Flask 40 oz can keep your hot beverages hot up to 12 hours, and cold ones cold up to 24 hours.

Differences of Hydro Flask 32 oz vs 40 oz

Size

Important Note: Since they’re wide, neither of the sizes can fit in the vehicle cup holders, if you want to put your bottle in your cup holder the biggest size that can actually fit is Hydro Flask 24 oz Standard Mouth.

Weight

Respectfully, Hydro Flask 32 oz and 40 oz weighs 15.2 oz and 17.6 oz when empty, 47.2 oz and 57.6 oz when they’re fulled.

So Hydro Flask 32 oz may be used in hiking trips if you won’t have a chance to refill your bottle, but Hydro Flask 40 oz is too heavy for carrying around in your backpack, it’s the better option if you’re going to carry it with your vehicle.

Similarities of Hydro Flask 32 oz & 40 oz

Material

Hydro Flask 40 oz Wide Mouth is made of Durable 18/8 Pro-Grade Stainless Steel.

Both sizes are made of Durable 18/8 Pro-Grade Stainless Steel therefore they’re extremely durable, although the prices of Hydro Flask bottles are higher compared to the industry, know that they provide lifetime longevity (hence the lifetime warranty).

Since we’re talking about the material, it’s worth noting that the bottles are very easy to clean due to this quality Stainless Steel they’re made of. After cleaning it you won’t taste the previous beverage’s flavor (which is a very common issue with cheap bottles).

One and maybe the only con about the bottles is the caps durability. Even though they’re much durable compared to their cheaper alternatives on the market, they might break if you’re too harsh on the bottle. But the good thing is you can always buy the caps and lids separately.

Powder Coat

I believe this is one of the cool features that separates Hydro Flask Bottles from the other alternatives, due to their powder coating technology, Hydro Flask Bottles are slip-free and they have a wonderful texture, if you’ve ever held a Hydro Flask bottle before you might know what I’m talking about.

They don’t feel like the cold, annoyingly smooth tin bottles, you feel the quality of the bottle when you touch it.

Thanks to this Color Last Powder Coating technology, the bottles look very good and you get a lot of color options as well.

And lastly, it’s important to mention that you can use a dishwasher for cleaning a Hydro Flask bottle.

Color

Both Hydro Flask 32 oz and 40 oz offers 11 different colors, here are your options, you can check the latest price and the availability of each color on Amazon by clicking the link below:

Wide Mouth

Hydro Flask 24 oz is the nearest size that has a standard mouth.

The Hydro Flask Bottles have two different designs, Wide Mouth and Standard Mouth. With a diameter of 2.26″ Wide Mouth is 0.35″ wider than the Standard Mouth (1.91″).

And for our comparison of Hydro Flask 32 oz vs 40 oz, unfortunately, neither of the sizes comes with a standard mouth, both sizes offer Wide Mouth, If you’re interested in a Standard Mouth, the nearest size that has a Standard Mouth is Hydro Flask 24 oz.

Insulation

Due to the double-wall vacuum insulation design (which is called TempShield), Hydro Flask 32 oz and 40 oz can keep your cold beverages cold up to 24 hours and they can keep your boiling hot beverage insulated for 12 hours.

Although the temperature retention depends on a lot of factors such as the outside temperature or how many times you open the bottle, they do keep your beverages at your desired level of coldness or hotness up to given hours.

Coleman vs Igloo

November 3, 2020 by Ricky Leave a Comment

Coleman Xtreme 5 Wheeled Cooler 100 qt is a budget-friendly cooler with good ice retention performance and handy features.

When you’re in the market looking for a budget-friendly cooler it’s very common to be torn between Coleman vs Igloo. Both brands have features that are superior to the other. So to help you pick the most suitable cooler for you I will be covering everything you should be looking for in each brand.

In summary, Coleman is the better option for those who have a small budget but yet need a good ice retention performance and handy features such as cup holders, wheels, etc. Igloo on the other hand is the better brand for those who need a bit high-end, more heavy-duty, sportive cooler. Also, in the same price range, Coleman offers better ice retention than Igloo.

Coleman Xtreme Review

If you’re just getting started with camping or any other outdoor adventures, you shouldn’t have to go out and buy the most expensive stuff, also you shouldn’t buy the cheapest ones as well.

You should be looking for budget-friendly gear that offers good features, and Coleman Xtreme offers the perfect balance between price and features.

Coleman Xtreme series has several different sizes, here are the most popular and handy ones with their specs and key features:

Coleman Xtreme 5 days as it’s written in the name offers you 5 days of ice retention, and it’s actually the only cooler that offers this insulation in its price range (Check the latest price on Amazon), you generally need to pay hundreds of dollars for 5 days of ice retention.

But in order to get 5 days of ice retention with that price tag you need to sacrifice some features as well. And the biggest sacrifice here is the materials it’s made of.

Coleman Xtreme is not the most durable cooler out there, when compared to YETI for example, you can sit on YETI or even jump on the YETI, you wouldn’t cause any damage, but if you’re a big fellow it’s best not to use Coleman Xtreme as a spare chair, it would bow after a while. Coleman Xtreme Series’ Lid supports up to 250 lbs.

Another downside of the series is they don’t have anti-slip feet, so if you don’t place the cooler tight, it would slide around in your trunk.

Coleman Xtreme 50 Quart has no anti-sleep feet but has nice and deep built-in cup holders on the lid.

The Xtreme series come with a drain system, it’s good that they feature a drain system, but it’s not very convenient, it doesn’t have a screw-on tap, therefore, it’s not very easy to open and close.

Enough with the downsides, right?

So let’s talk about the good stuff, Coleman Xtreme features nice and deep built-in cup holders on the lid, that is a very cool feature, most of the other popular coolers out there such as Igloo Maxcold or YETI Tundra doesn’t feature a built-in cup holder, with most of them you even need to purchase a holder accessory that is attachable to the cooler and they’re usually sold separately.

Another cool thing about the Coleman Xtreme series is they feature a scale on the lid which is a very handy feature especially for fishermen out there.

The handles of the Coleman Xtreme series have a rubber coating around them, this is not a must-have feature, however, it allows you to carry your cooler more comfortably.

Last but not least The 50 qt size Coleman Xtreme has only a wheeled version, the 70 qt size is only available in a wheelless version, and the 100 qt size cooler is available in both wheeled and wheelless versions.

Another convenient gear for those who are looking for a budget cooler is Igloo Maxcold, this hard cooler has several sizes as well, here are the specs of the most popular and convenient sizes.

- 5 days of ice retention

Igloo Maxcold series is advertised as 5 days of ice retention, but although it depends on many factors, I must say that if you want 5 days of ice retention you really need to be prepared before the trip (by cooling inside of the cooler before the trip and by filling it with already cold beverages, etc.) but if you’re already planning 3-day or 4-day trips, it would do the job perfectly well.

Funny thing is, not all sizes of Igloo Maxcold have the same design, all of them (50qt, 70qt, 100 qt sizes) have drain plugs, swing handles, tie-down loops. But additionally:

  • Igloo Maxcold 50 qt has a snap-fit latch on the lid to be closed more tightly
  • Igloo Maxcold 100 qt also have dual snap-fit latches on the lid, and it features a Quick-access hatch to access your beverages or foods without heating up inside of the cooler
Igloo Maxcold series are durable enough to be used as a spare chair, considering their price they’re is really sturdy.

Igloo Maxcold 100 Quart is really sturdy that is enough to be used as a spare chair.

The series has a drain valve, for those who didn’t have a cooler before, it’s a very important feature, do not even think of getting a cooler that doesn’t have a drain plug. And I must give credit to Igloo Maxcold’s drain system, it has a screw-on tap it’s a very convenient plug.

So what are the downsides of Igloo Maxcold Series?

  • They don’t have any rubber at the bottom of the cooler to make it anti-slip, so if you don’t place your cooler tightly it will slide around in your trunk
  • Although the cooler is heavy-duty, the hinges are not very quality, so you might have to change them after a while

Coleman vs Igloo Detailed Comparison

Both Coleman and Igloo have several types of coolers, but to help you to get a better idea of the brands, I’ve compared their most popular and convenient models of the brands, Coleman Xtreme and Igloo Maxcold.

Design

Coleman Xtreme series have a very even design, you almost get the same width at the bottom as at the top, and it makes it much easier to fill and stack the cooler.

Igloo Maxcold series, on the other hand, has a slightly tapered design wider at the top more narrow through the bottom, but it’s still convenient enough for easily organizing your perishables.

Beauty-wise, I must give credit to the Igloo Maxcold series, compared to the Coleman Xtreme series, Igloo Maxcolds look much better, and they look more high-end.

But beauty is a relative concept, so here is a side by side picture of both coolers:

Coleman Xtreme 70 Quart

Ice retention

As I’ve mentioned above, both coolers are advertised as 5 days ice retention coolers, but in this department, I have to give credit to Coleman, it does a better job when it comes to keeping your beverages cool for a longer time.

Will Coleman Xtreme and Igloo Maxcold keep your beverages cold up to five days?

Yes, if you pre-chill the cooler and if your beverages are already cold when you stack them in the cooler, they will keep your beverages cold up to 5 days (depends on a lot of factors though, such as outside temperature). BUT with the same conditions, ices in the Coleman Xtreme starts to melt later than Igloo Maxcold.

Weight

When the same sizes of the Coleman Xtreme and the Igloo Maxcold compared, the difference in weight is negligible.

Coleman Xtreme 50 Quart Cooler weigh up to about 80-90 lbs when completely filled with ice and cans.

However, most people don’t take into account coolers’ full weight (when they’re filled with ice and cans) when buying a cooler, you should know that a 50 qt cooler completely filled with ice and cans can weigh up to about 80-90 lbs. This number will increase as the size of the cooler increases.

This weight might be too much if you are going to carry it alone. In this case, consider a wheeled cooler (I will get into details below).

Even though it is unimportant as you won’t be carrying your wheeled cooler, it is also worth noting that wheeled coolers are heavier than regular coolers.

Durability

First things first, since both are budget coolers you shouldn’t be expecting a very robust / bear-proof cooler, if that is a really important factor you should chip in a little more and go for the YETI Tundra (read my review or view on Amazon).

But if you’re on a budget, you can use both brands’ coolers for years if you’re not planning extreme outdoor adventures, you might need to change the hinges from time to time though, but the good thing is, generally both brands use the same hinges and drain valves for most of their different models, so it’s very easy to find the spare parts.

Features Comparison of Igloo vs Coleman

Drain Plug

Both Coleman Xtreme and Igloo Maxcold series features a drainage system, and both coolers’ inside are angled towards the drain, so you don’t need to lift one side of the cooler to drain the water.

Igloo Drain System

Igloo Maxcold coolers' drain plug design is much better than the Coleman Xtreme coolers. It has screw-on tapping that makes it more convenient to use.

But I must give credit to Igloo here, because it has a much better drain plug design, with screw-on tapping it’s much easier to use. Unfortunately, even though the Coleman Xtreme drain plug does the job it’s not as convenient as Igloo Maxcold’s drain system.

Leak Proofing

Neither Igloo Maxcold nor Coleman Xtreme series comes with a gasket around the lid, so they’re not leak-proof, once they turned upside down they both will leak, so when you’re arranging your trunk before leaving for your trip, make sure to tie down your cooler tightly.

Gaskets are not used only for leak-proofing though, since they prevent the hot air from coming inside, they’re an important factor for ice retention as well, so if you want to leak-proof your cooler and increase the ice retention performance you can always make your own gasket. It’s important to mention that high-end coolers such as YETI Tundra (read my review or view on Amazon) or RTIC Ice Chest Coolers (view on Amazon) come with gaskets.

Wheel System

If you didn’t have any cooler until now, you must know that coolers are heavy gear when they’re filled with cans and ices, a 50 qt cooler fully filled with ice and cans can weigh around 80 lbs or maybe even higher (depends on what you put in it), and that is a very high weight for one person to carry, therefore wheeled coolers come in very handy for those who don’t have an extra hand.

The good thing is Coleman Xtreme 50qt and Coleman Xtreme 100qt coolers have wheeled versions and they also feature a convenient handle, and they are very budget-friendly.

Igloo Maxcold series on the other hand doesn’t feature a wheel, if you want an igloo cooler with a wheel you need to increase your budget a little bit, and go for a more high-end Igloo cooler such as Igloo Trailmate, or go for a less quality cooler that doesn’t offer days of ice retention such as Igloo Ice Cube 60.

Here are the best options for Igloo wheeled coolers:

Igloo Trailmate 70 Qt

If you want a wheeled cooler that is very convenient to use, Igloo Trailmate 70 Quart is perfect for you!

  • Features Cup Holders & Bottle Opener
  • Comes with a food basket
  • 4 days of ice retention
  • Very convenient glide handle
  • Oversized wheels
  • Dry storage
  • Drain plug

If you have enough budget, Igloo Trailmate is not only very easy to carry around but also has a lot of cool features as well.

Check out the latest price on Amazon

Igloo Ice Cube 60 qt

Igloo Ice Cube 60 Quart is a good option if ice retention is not really important and you only have limited budget.

  • Features Cup Holders
  • Regular Wheels
  • Has a telescopic handle
  • Drain Plug

If ice retention is not an important factor for you and if you really need a wheeled cooler, Igloo Ice Cube 60qt would be a good option for those who’re tight on the budget.

Check out the latest price on Amazon

Non-Slip Feet

As I’ve mentioned before, since coolers are budget coolers they don’t feature non-slip feet, so they can be annoying sliding around your trunk.

But the good thing is you can always make your cooler non-slip yourself very easily with an Adhesive Anti-skid Pad.

Tie-down Slots

If you need a cooler only for your backcountry camping trips then not having a tie-down slot might not be a deal-breaker for you, but if you’re a boater or more extreme outdoor enthusiast you might need tie-down slots.

Igloo Maxcold series have one tie-down slot on each handle (not super durable but still does the job), Coleman Xtreme series on the other hand doesn’t feature tie-down slots.

Accessories for Igloo and Coleman Coolers

Freezer Blocks

Igloo Maxcold Freeze Blocks is one way to increase ice retention performance. The dimensions of the cooler is important in selecting freezer blocks.

One way to increase ice retention performance is by using freezer blocks, they work more efficiently when they’re combined with regular ice cubes.

The thing you should consider here is to select the proper size for your cooler, so look at the interior dimensions of your cooler before you choose the proper Freezer Block, so it would fit perfectly to the bottom of your cooler (these freezer blocks generally put at the very end of the cooler for better performance).

My recommends for freezer blocks is Igloo Maxcold Freezer Blocks and YETI Ice.

Basket

To keep your food and dry goods separately you will need a basket, although it’s not a must-have accessory, it definitely helps a lot in organizing your perishables.

But again buying the right size is very important, so make sure to look at the dimensions of the basket and your cooler before you purchase one.

My recommendation for cooler baskets are Igloo Cooler Baskets.

YETI 45 vs 65

October 23, 2020 by Ricky 2 Comments

YETI Tundra 45 is the better option for small capacity, three-day trips.

Keeping your perishables fresh and your beverages cold is important for any outdoor trip, and for those who need a durable, convenient cooler that offers days of ice retention, I’ve compiled everything to know about YETI Tundra 45 vs 65 to help you to pick the one that is suitable for your needs.

In summary, if you need a cooler for a maximum of three-day trips that don’t require big capacity, with a capacity of 28 cans (or 37.6 quarts) YETI Tundra 45 would do the job perfectly. It takes up %27 less space on your trunk compared to YETI 65 (YETI 45 and 65 respectively takes up roughly 110 quarts and 140 quarts of space). YETI Tundra 65, on the other hand, can keep your beverages cold up to 6.5 days and it’s ideal for large groups’ outdoor adventures.

YETI Tundra 45 Review

  • WEIGHT: 23 lbs
  • OUTSIDE DIMENSION: 16.1” × 15.4” × 25 .8”
  • INSIDE DIMENSION: 9.4” × 10.6” × 18.4”
  • CAPACITY: 28 Cans

First things first, contrary to common belief, the number 45 doesn’t refer to the size of the cooler, it’s just the name of the model, YETI Tundra 45 is actually 37.6 quarts, not 45 quarts.

The YETI Tundra 45's outside dimension is 16.1” × 15.4” × 25 .8" while the inside dimension is 9.4” × 10.6” × 18.4”.

So if you were expecting a cooler that offers a capacity higher than 45-quarts then I suggest you look at YETI Tundra 65 below.

Now that we’ve been through this, we can jump into the features of the cooler.

YETI Tundra 45 is the perfect balance for size and capacity, it’s not so big, won’t take up too much space in your trunk, but it offers a capacity that would be enough for 3 to 4 days (for one-two person).

With a 2:1 ice to can ratio by volume (recommended by YETI), the Tundra 45 can hold 28 cans, it’s also deep enough to take 1L bottles as well.

If you’re not familiar with the cooler market, you might find YETI Tundra 45 a little bit expensive (see the price on Amazon), but the thing is, YETI is the market leader for a reason, it offers the whole package:

  • The perfect durability: YETI Tundra 45 and all other YETI hard coolers are bear-proof
  • Excellent ice retention: YETI Tundra 45 can keep your beverages cold up to 3-4 days
  • Very convenient: From nonslip feet to drain system it offers lots of features (I will get into each feature below)

YETI Tundra 65 Review

  • OUTSIDE DIMENSION: 17.2” × 16” × 30.6”
  • INSIDE DIMENSION: 10.6” × 11.1” × 23.1”
  • CAPACITY: 42 Cans

Just like YETI 45, YETI Tundra 65 doesn’t offer 65 quarts of volume as well, it’s 57.2 quarts, so if you’re looking for a cooler that offers 65 quarts or higher volume, in YETI’s line I would recommend YETI Tundra 75 it’s 74.8 quarts (closest one).

The YETI Tundra 65's outside dimension is 17.2” × 16” × 30.6” while the inside dimension is 10.6” × 11.1” × 23.1".

So with that important information out of the way, let’s dive into the cool features of this very popular cooler.

YETI Tundra 65 is the perfect cooler for big groups, it’s big, it’s durable, and it offers excellent ice retention even better than YETI Tundra 45 (I will get into the details below).

With a 2:1 ice to can ratio (by volume), it can take 42 cans, and it offers enough capacity for at least 2-3 days for four people (really depends on what you’re taking with you).

And since they have the same design it offers every feature that YETI 45 provides, such as Doublehaul Handles, Neverfail Hinge System (I will cover and explain each feature below.

The Differences of YETI 45 vs 65

Size & Capacity

The main differences between YETI Tundra 45 and 65 are their size and capacity. Also, as I’ve mentioned above, the number on the name doesn’t refer to the size of the cooler.

YETI Tundra 45 and 65 offer respectively 37.6 and 57.2 quarts of volume, so YETI Tundra 65 offers %55 (20 quarts) bigger interior volume than YETI Tundra 45.

Also with a capacity of holding 42 cans, you can put 14 more cans to YETI Tundra 65 compared to YETI Tundra 45 (holds 28 cans).

Ice Retention

YETI Tundra 65 is the clear winner in this department, with roughly 6.5 days of ice retention, it can keep your beverages cold 3 more days than YETI Tundra 45 (offers roughly 3.5 days of ice retention).

Although YETI Tundra 65 is better than Tundra 45 when it comes to ice retention, you must know that it depends on a lot of factors, like outside temperature, things you put in the cooler, etc. Therefore most cooler brands including YETI don’t provide you an approximate ice retention day.

But, if ice retention is an important factor for you, without any hesitation you can go with the YETI Tundra 65.

Weight

With 29 lbs of weight, YETI 65 is 6 lbs heavier than YETI 45 when empty. Compared to the big difference in capacity, the weight difference is not that much.

If I have to put it another way: YETI 65 weighs %26 heavier than YETI 45 but it offers:

  • %55 bigger interior volume
  • %50 higher can-holding capacity (it can hold 14 more cans)
  • 3 more days of ice retention

YETI Tundra 65 weighs roughly 96 lbs when it's fully filled with cans and ice.

One important factor that most people miss is, how heavy are YETI Tundra 45 and 65 are when they’re fully filled with cans and ice.

So I must say over-all YETI Tundra 65 is more efficient than YETI Tundra 45, but at the end of the day it all comes down to “how much capacity and ice retention do you actually need?”.

There’s no meaning to get a bigger cooler, if you won’t be able to carry it, right?

When it’s fully filled with cans and ice, YETI Tundra 65 weighs roughly 96 lbs, YETI Tundra 45 on the other hand weighs roughly 67 lbs.

What color Yeti should you get

YETI 45 is the clear winner in the color department, but the thing is, darker colors absorb more heat. A black cooler’s surface can get up to 170°F on very hot days, on the other hand, a white cooler’s surface gets up to a maximum of 110 °F, so not only it’s impossible to sit on a black cooler during hot days, but it’s also less efficient ice retention-wise.

So, always go with the white cooler…

Efficiency

Weight: YETI 65 can hold 42 cans while weighing 29 lbs (empty), which means,  you will be carrying 1.44 lbs of the cooler for each can, YETI 45 on the other hand holds 28 cans with 23 lbs of weight, so it can carry 1.21 can/lbs. So, if you go with YETI 65 you will be carrying less “cooler weight” per can.

Size: YETI 65 takes up 146.5 quarts of space but offers 57.2 quarts of capacity (due to the thick walls), so it offers %39 of its space for storage, YETI 45 on the other hand takes up 110.5 quarts of space but offer 37.6 quarts of capacity, so it offers %34 of its space for storage. So YETI 65 is again the more efficient one.

YETI Tundra 45 offers 37.6 quarts of capacity and can keep your beverages cold for 3-4 days

Ice retention: Although it depends on a variety of factors YETI 65 offers roughly 6.5 days of ice retention, YETI 45 on the other hand can keep your beverages cold for 3-4 days.

So, for efficiency comparison of YETI 45 vs 65, the winner is YETI Tundra 65 for every factor you should take into consideration.

But keep in mind that doesn’t necessarily mean that you should directly go for YETI 65, consider how much space you actually have in your trunk/boat? or likewise how much ice retention you actually need?

The Similarities of YETI 45 vs 65

Since both coolers have exactly the same design they offer the same features, so let’s dive into each feature, with pros and cons.

Insulation Features

FatWall Design

Tundra series have a very thick wall design (up to three inches) to provide the maximum level of insulation and increase ice retention.

Permaforst Insulation

There is a material called polyurethane, which is also used in refrigerators and most of the cooling systems, between the inner wall and the outer wall of the cooler to decrease the heat loss through the walls.

ColdLock Gasket and InterLock Lid System

In addition to the wall insulation, Tundra 45 and 65 features a gasket and Interlock Lid System (the ridge design that sits perfectly to the gap on the lid) to keep the cold air inside and hot air outside to extend the ice retention time.

One important thing to mention is although it comes with a gasket, they’re not leakproof, once your YETI Tundra fall down to its side, it will leak… Personally, I think this is the biggest con of the Tundra series.

Durability Features

Rotomolded Construction

The YETI Tundra series are made of extremely durable polyethylene material and a combination of this durable material and great construction results in a bear-proof cooler.

NeverFail Hinge System

YETI Tundra series features two hinges that attach the lid to the cooler, and they’re designed with two hinge pins and an interlocking system to prevent them from ever breaking.

Aside from convenience features, both YETI Tundra 45 and YETI Tundra 65 have insulation features such as FatWall Design, Permaforst Design, and ColdLock Gasket and InterLock Lid System; and durability features such as Rotomolded Construction, NeverFail Hinge System, and T-Rex Lid Latches.

T-Rex Lid Latches

So far, except for the leaking problem, I’ve pointed mostly the pros of the Tundra, but it’s important to mention the bad parts too, the lid latches of the Tundra line which is called T-Rex are not the most customer-friendly design.

Some people like it but for me, they’re not the most convenient lid latches on the market, if getting something from your cooler quickly is important to you, you might not like the Tundra Lid Latching system.

But I also have to give credit to Latch design, they do keep the lid tightly closed.

Convenience Features

Vortex Drain System

This is probably my favorite feature of the Tundra Series. If you ever had a cheap cooler you might know how annoying it’s to try to pour the water out of the cooler without losing any ice.

Well probably YETI Tundra designers had this problem before and they thought of placing this very convenient drain system.

It really is very very easy to use, just open the drain lid, let the gravity do its job, and close the lid again, there you go, you’re done.

Non-Slip Feet

Another annoying thing with cheap coolers is, if you don’t place them tightly, they tend to travel around in your trunk while you’re driving.

So to avoid this problem, YETI Tundra series have non-sliding bottom.

Handles

YETI Tundra series feature DoubleHaul handles which is basically military-grade nylon rope that has a plastic rubber on it, so not only they’re extremely durable but they also ease the carrying process very much.

Also, the Tundra series has Lipgrip handles as well, they’re built in the design, therefore the handles don’t take up any space.

Locking Holes

YETI Tundra series have locking holes on each top front corners to keep your food safe, it’s not a must, but still, it’s good to have.

Tie-down Slots

Last but not least, the Tundra design has two slots on the top right and top left sides allowing you to mount the cooler to your truck, boat, etc.

This feature might seem insignificant. However, when you get into tough surfaces, your firm mud-terrain tires might start to bounce, so a mounted cooler will definitely help you better.

Frequently Asked Questions For YETI Tundra Series

YETI Tundra 65 is equipped with polyurethane, which has an extremely low "heat transmission coefficient" placed between its inner and outer walls which decreases heat loss to a minimum level.

Is the Yeti Tundra Worth It?

Well, it all depends on what you’re expecting from a cooler if you’re an outdoor enthusiast who’s looking for a convenient cooler that will hold your ice for more than four days which is durable enough for years of use then yes they’re worth it.

BUT, if you only go for one or two days trips maximum of 2-3 times a year, then going for a cheaper brand such as Igloo Coolers might be a better option for you.

How Do Yeti Coolers Work?

YETI coolers have a material called polyurethane between their inner and outer walls, and this material has an extremely low “heat transmission coefficient” to decrease the heat loss to a minimum level, and also YETI Coolers have a gasket on their lids to prevent hot air from coming in and heat the inside of your cooler.

YETI Hopper Flip 12 vs 18

October 11, 2020 by Ricky Leave a Comment

YETI Hopper Flip 12 is perfect for one or two-day adventures because of it's light weight and soft-sided material.

Whether you’re going for a long-time car camping or a one day trip to the backcountry, an insulated durable cooler is essential for you, and when it comes to coolers, no doubt the first brand that pops into mind is YETI, and to help you to pick the most suitable model for you, I’ve compiled everything you should know and consider to decide between YETI Hopper Flip 12 vs 18.

If you’re in a hurry, YETI Hopper Flip 12 has a capacity of carrying 13 cans by only weighing 3.1 pounds, it’s the perfect option for one or two-day adventures for a maximum of 2 people. YETI Hopper Flip 18 on the other hand with a weight of 5.1 lbs, is bigger and heavier than Flip 12 but it can carry 20 cans with a better ice retention performance, which makes it the better option for longer trips.

YETI Hopper Flip 12 Review

YETI Hopper Flip 12 is made of waterproof 840-denier double-sided thermoplastic urethane and has Hydrolok Zipper.

  • WEIGHT: 3.1 lbs
  • OUTSIDE DIMENSION: 10” × 11.5” × 12 5/8”
  • INSIDE DIMENSION: 8” × 9” × 11”
  • CAPACITY: 13 Cans

When you need a small, soft-sided cooler that’s durable enough for years of use, and that is light enough to carry around on your backcountry trips, YETI Hopper Flip 12 offers everything you’re looking for.

With a 2:1 ice to can ratio, it can take 13 cans. Even though it depends on what you prefer to carry in your cooler, this capacity should be enough for at least two-person, but don’t expect the cooler to be keeping your beverages cool for a couple of days, since it’s a soft cooler, ice starts to melt after the day one, but it’s more than enough for daily trips.

It’s made of waterproof 840-denier double-sided thermoplastic urethane, which is an extremely durable material for a soft cooler, you can throw it from a moving vehicle it wouldn’t break.

And thanks to this material and its Hydrolok Zipper, the cooler is extremely waterproof, if you’re planning a fishing or kayaking trip, it won’t allow water to get inside or melted ice leak through the zipper.

I should mention that the one downside of this cooler is the zipper, there is nothing wrong with the functionality but it’s a little bit tight, you might find it a bit hard to unzip the zipper.

Last but not least, it has two handles on sides, one handle on top, one handle on the very back, and it features one shoulder strap which makes it very convenient to carry, and also it features Hitchpoint Grid, to easily attach small accessories such as bottle openers.

YETI Hopper Flip 18 Review

YETI Hopper Flip 18 features Dryhide shell and FDA-approved food-grade material that keeps the food safe and cold cell technology that offers 40 hours of ice range.

  • WEIGHT: 5.1 lbs
  • OUTSIDE DIMENSION: 10.75” × 13” × 16.25”
  • INSIDE DIMENSION: 8.5 ” × 10.25 ” × 14.25”
  • CAPACITY: 20 Cans

Although YETI is mostly famous for its hard coolers, soft coolers in YETI’s line are getting more and more popular each day. And YETI Hopper coolers are loved more than the other soft coolers in YETI’s line by the community.

And YETI Hopper Flip 18 especially is the optimum cooler for 2 to 4 person, one or two-day trips. A common misunderstanding is people think Flip 18 can carry 18 cans but actually it can take 20 cans, and it’s light enough carry by hanging on your neck, when it’s full it might be hard to carry by one person but for that, it has two handles on each side, so you can divide the load with your partner.

YETI Hopper Flip 18 features a Dryhide shell which is basically a very durable, mold-resistant material, and the liner is also made of FDA-approved food-grade material in order to keep your food in the cooler without any concern.

Due to its cold cell technology, it offers roughly 40 hours of ice range (40 hours is an approximate ice range, it actually depends on many factors).

The YETI Hopper Flip weighs only 5.1 lbs and given the features above the cooler strikes the perfect combination of longevity, ice retention, and lightness.

Detailed Comparison of YETI Hopper Flip 12 vs 18

Capacity

Yeti recommends two to one ice ratio when it comes to Capacity, which means you need to fill 2/3 of your cooler with ice, and 1/3 of your cooler with cans or soda bottle.

With that being said, you can put 13 cans to your YETI Hopper Flip 12 to fill up the 2/3 of the cooler with ice. You might wonder why 13, not 12? It’s because you can fill 12 Cans vertically and put 1 can horizontally on the other 12 cans. Therefore, YETI Hopper Flip 12 has the capacity to carry 13 cans.

YETI Hopper Flip 18 on the other hand, can carry 20 cans, you can place 15 cans vertically and 5 cans horizontally on top of the other cans.

Header

Approximate Storage Volume

792 in3 / 13.7 quarts

1241 in3 / 21.5 quarts

The Volume of the Cooler

1452 in3/ 25.1 quarts

2271 in3 / 39.3 quarts

Can Capacity

13 Cans

20 Cans

But cans should not be your only consideration factor when comparing capacity, you will be putting bottles in your cooler too.

And since YETI Hopper Flip 18 is 16.25″ wide, it can take 1 L of soda bottle (when placed horizontally), YETI Hopper Flip 12 on the other hand is only 12 5/8″ wide therefore it’s not possible to put 1 L of Bottle neither horizontally nor vertically.

Size

Depending on your needs, you might need a smaller cooler, for example, if you need a cooler for kayaking you need to make sure that the cooler you’re aiming for fits in your kayak, or you might be car camping with a small trunk, therefore, it’s important the know the sizes of both coolers.

  • YETI Hopper Flip 12 has the dimensions of 10” × 11.5” × 12 5/8” and it has 1452 in3 of volume
  • YETI Hopper Flip 18’s dimensions on the other hand are 10.75” × 13” × 16.25” which equals 2271 in3 volume

So, volumetrically YETI Hopper Flip 18 takes up %56 more space than the YETI Hopper Flip 12, and here is a size comparison of the two coolers:

Weight

YETI Hopper Flip 18 weighs 2 lbs more than YETI Hopper Flip 12 when empty, while YETI Hopper Flip 18 weighs 13 lbs more than YETI Hopper Flip 12 when full of ice and cans.

When empty, with a 5.1 lbs of weight YETI Hopper Flip 18 is 2 lbs heavier than the YETI Hopper Flip 12 (3.1 lbs).

And if we look at it from a different angle (let’s call it the efficiency angle):

  • With Hopper Flip 12, you will be carrying 3.1 lbs for 13 cans, so you will be carrying 0.23 lbs of the cooler for each can
  • With Hopper Flip 18, you will be carrying 5.1 lbs for 20 cans, so for each can you will be carrying 0.25 lbs of the cooler

Although the difference is not big, for the YETI Hopper Flip 12 vs 18 comparison Flip 12 is the winner in the weight department.

BUT the most important issue here is, will you be able to carry the coolers by yourself when they’re full or how hard will it be to carry the coolers when they’re fulled.

YETI Hopper Flip 12 weighs around 25 pounds when it’s full of ice and cans, on the other hand, Hopper Flip 18 weighs roughly 38 pounds when it’s full. So if you’re thinking of carrying the cooler by yourself, Hopper Flip 18 might be too heavy for you.

But that is for only carrying ice and cans, if you’re thinking of carrying sandwiches or fruits as well, the cooler would be much lighter.

Ice Retention Capacity

First things first, ice retention varies on very different factors, such as:

  • How warm was the cooler before you fill it in with ice?
  • How warm were the things you put in the cooler?
  • What is the outside temperature? and many other factors…

But, for the comparison of YETI Hopper Flip 12 vs 18, Hopper Flip 18 is the winner in the ice retention department.

Although it depends on many factors, I can say that while the Yeti Hopper Flip 18 will keep your drinks cold for about 40 hours, the Hopper Flip 12 will keep them cold for about 30 hours.

It’s important to mention that when it comes to keeping your food cold, due to YETI’s closed-cell foam technology, the YETI Hopper Flip series does a much better job than almost every soft coolers out there .

Similarities of YETI Hopper Flip 12 and 18

Zipper & Waterproofing

Although YETI uses a very high-quality zipper for flip 12 and 18 it’s maybe the only downside of the coolers.

Yes, this waterproof Hydrolok Zipper definitely doesn’t allow water getting in the cooler and it prevents melted ice from leaking out from the cooler, for functionality, it’s perfect, but the downside is, it’s very tight and hard to zip and unzip.

Since the zipper is made of hard material to make the cooler more durable and waterproof, getting something from the cooler quickly is not as easy as cheap light coolers.

Durability

All YETI Hopper Flips are made of 840D double-side thermoplastic urethane/foam insulation/EVA bottom, this high-density fabric called Dryhide shell is mold, puncture, and UV resistant.

It is also worth noting that the Hopper Flip soft coolers are not bear-proof like YETI hard coolers. But still, for soft coolers, they are as robust as it gets.

YETI Hopper Flip 12 and Hopper Flip 18 are similar in zipper and waterproofing, durability, design, hitchpoint grid, and handles.

YETI Hopper Flip Design

Both YETI Hopper Flip 12 and 18 have the same design, the only difference is their size. But for those who’re not familiar with the design, it’s important to mention its features.

Hitchpoint Grid

YETI Hopper Flip series has multiple tie-down loops on both front and back, you can either use this loops for attaching the cooler to your vehicles such as your car or your motorcycle to make it more stable, or you can attach equipment to the cooler itself using this loops, such as YETI MOLLE Bottle Opener.

Although they both feature Hitchpoint Grids, YETI Hopper Flip 18 has four loops on each line, Flip 12 on the other hand has three loops on each line.

Handles

This design offers too many options to carry the cooler, and these options are:

  • Side Handles: The coolers feature two easy-carry handles to ease the carrying process, this is especially important for YETI Hopper Flip 18, you may carry Flip 12 by yourself when it’s fulled, but you’re most likely to need a hand when carrying YETI Hopper Flip 18.
  • Top Handle: Hopper Flip Series also features one handle on the top if you prefer to carry that way (it’s more comfortable to carry this way when the cooler is light).
  • Back Handle: There is also a handle at the very back of the cooler.

Besides the handles, Hopper Flips comes with a shoulder strap, if you didn’t fill up the cooler so heavy, you can carry it with the shoulder strap as well.

The shoulder strap is made of really tough material so no matter what you carry there is no way it rips off, and also it features a rubber backing to prevent it from sliding off your shoulder. And the cool thing is it’s optional, the strap comes off very easily if you don’t want to use it.

Lastly for the design, since both coolers have a robust design and a smooth top surface they can be used as a small table too.

Accessories for YETI Hopper Flip

YETI ICE

YETI ICE increases the efficiency of ice retention when used with ice stash.

These ice substitutes are mainly used for increasing the efficiency of ice retention. Contrary to popular belief, YETI ICE alone is not enough to keep your beverages cold for a long time, but when used with your ice stash, it increases the ice retention performance.

YETI ICE comes in three different sizes: 1lb, 2lb, and 4lb. Here are the dimensions of all three sizes:

YETI MOLLE Bottle Opener can be attached to the Hitchpoint Grid of YETI Hopper Flip 18.

Whether you have one on your keychain, in your car, or on your cooler, having a bottle opener is crucial. And it’s a tool that is usually forgotten, the good thing about the MOLLE Bottle opener lies on that actually, since it can be attached to the Hitchpoint Grid it’s literally impossible to forget it.

Breeo vs Solo Stove

September 19, 2020 by Ricky 4 Comments

Solo Stove Ranger, one of the most in demand smokeless fire pits, is a light and compact fire pit that can be carried with you to outdoor activities.

Portable fire pits are not only handy heat sources but they also create a great ambiance in your backyard or at your campsite.

Over the last few years most of the fire pit companies started to design portable smokeless fire pits and today I’ll be comparing the two smokeless fire pits in demand, Breeo vs Solo Stove.

In summary, Solo Stoves are much lighter and compact than Breeo Stoves therefore not only they can be used at your backyard but they can also be carried with you to your outdoor adventures, Breeo Stoves on the other hand are more of a heavy-duty backyard fire pits and they’re the better option if cooking on your fire pit is an important factor for you.

Detailed Comparison of Breeo vs Solo Stove

Portability

I wanted to start the comparison with portability, because, it’s the biggest difference between the two fire pits, and Solo Stove is the clear winner here.

Weight

Although they have several sizes which I’ll be covering below, Breeo Double Flame 19″ and Solo Stove Bonfire has nearly the same diameter, but Bonfire weighs less than half of Breeo Double Flame.

With a weight of 20 lbs (9.07 kg), Solo Stove Bonfire is portable enough to be lifted and brought to your campsite, If you’re looking for a stove/firepit primarily for bringing with you to the backcountry, then I recommend Solo Stove Ranger (read my review or view on Amazon) with a weight of 15 lbs (6.8 kg) it’s the perfect option for outdoor adventures.

Breeo Double Flame 19" weighs 48 lbs and has a built-in feet. It is not preferable to bring this fire pit with you to the backcountry.

Breeo Double Flame, on the other hand, weighs 48 lbs (21 kg) therefore is not light enough to bring with you to the backcountry, but it’s portable enough to carry around in your backyard from time to time.

So, if you’re thinking of purchasing a fire pit that you can pack and take with you to your camping site, then Solo Stove is a suitable option for you.

Packed Size

One of the big differences of Breeo vs Solo Stove is, Breeo has built-in feet that cannot be unattached, Solo Stove, on the other hand, doesn’t have any feet and you don’t actually need one if you don’t want to put your stove/fire pit on a heat-sensitive surface.

If you’re thinking of placing your fire pit on a wooden deck, Solo Stove offers a stand (sold separately), and not only this stand acts as feet to lift the stove higher to not to damage the heat-sensitive surfaces, it can also be nested into the stove itself after you’re done with the fire pit.

And almost every fire pit accessories of Solo Stove such as the stand or shield can be nested into the stove, you can see it in the video below.

But that is not the case with Breeo Stoves, its accessories can’t be nested. Therefore if you’re thinking of taking your fire pit to the backcountry, Solo Stove suits you the best.

Sizes

Solo Stove is again the winner in this department, because, it offers three different sizes whereas Breeo has only two different sizes.

The three different Solo Stove sizes are from smallest to biggest; Ranger, Bonfire and Yukon:

If you’re just a couple who don’t have kids or if you need a portable fire pit for your RV camping, Breeo wouldn’t attract you because it would be too big for you, but Solo Stove Ranger would do the job.

Likewise, if you’re a very big family who’s looking for a backyard firepit, Solo Stove Yukon (read my review or view on Amazon) would be the better option compared to Breeo Double Flame 24″ since it offers a bigger volume thus bigger flame.

So the main reason why I declared Solo Stove as the winner in the department is, it appeals to a wider audience.

Durability

Both Breeo and Solo Stoves are made of 304 Stainless Steel which is a very durable and corrosion-resistant material, therefore they’re both extremely durable and offer longevity of years of use.

BUT I must give credit to Breeo Stoves here since they’re thicker, more robust than Solo Stoves and also, Breeo Stoves are made in the USA, Solo Stoves on the other hand are made in China.

So if durability is the main factor for you, you should go with the Breeo Stoves, but know that Solo Stoves are very durable as well.

Cooking

Breeo Double Flame 19" can be used as a grill for outdoor activities.

Nothing tastes better than the sausages roasted in the fire pit right? I know, but if you go further than roasting, such as grilling, these fire pits are not the most convenient ones, due to their solid design, they’re very hard to clean, and since they produce a great amount of heat, it’s a little bit hard to cook on them.

If cooking is your first priority I recommend Biolite Fire Pit (read my review or view on Amazon), it’s a very popular smokeless fire pit as well (which can also be used as a grill).

But for our Breeo vs Solo Stove comparison, Breeo is the clear winner in the cooking department. Because Breeo has invented a campfire grill that is compatible with Breeo fire pits, also since it’s very light it can be used separately as a grill in your outdoor adventures too.

Rather than that, Unlike Solo Stoves, there are two different types of Breeo firepits, Breeo Double Flame and Breeo X Series, with its sear ring and custom design Breeo X Series specifically made for wood fire cooking.

Smokeless Design

To be fair, there is no clear winner in this department. Both companies are using the same design and they’re equally smokeless.

Although they’re called smokeless fire pits, you will still see a little smoke especially when the fire is weak at the early stages, but they’re much smokeless compared to regular fire pits.

How do Breeo and Solo Stoves work?

This innovative design features a double-wall that has holes at the bottom of the outer wall and at the top of the inner wall. The cold air taken from the bottom holes gets heated through the wall and creates a secondary burn when leaving out from top holes and that causes fire to be smokeless.

Accessories: Breeo vs Solo Stove

Stand

Solo Stove Stand serves as a feet to Solo Stoves on a heat-sensitive surface.

This is the biggest difference in this department because Breeo has feet (attached to the main body of the stove) that raise the stove higher preventing damaging to heat-sensitive surfaces.

Solo stove, on the other hand, doesn’t have any feet, if you want to use it on a heat-sensitive surface you need to purchase the stand separately, that is the biggest disadvantage of Solo Stove.

Cooking Accessories

As I’ve mentioned above, Breeo is the better option for cooking especially the Breeo X Series. And it has a grill called Breeo Outpost (sold separately) on its line that is compatible with every Breeo fire pits.

The cool thing about this grill is you can adjust the height to your desired level, if the fire is too hot or if you’re cooking something that needs a low temperature you can just adjust the height of the grate at its maximum level, likewise if you need a really hot fire you can easily adjust the height of the grate to its minimum level.

Breeo Outpost Grill is compatible to every Breeo fire pits making Breeo Stove the better option Solo Stove for cooking.

Solo Stove, on the other hand, doesn’t have a grill in its line, if you want to cook with it you need to purchase a grill grate separately from a different brand, I would recommend Weber Hinged Cooking Grate for the Bonfire but you can get any cooking great that has a bigger diameter than the fire pit.

Although Solo Stove doesn’t have any compatible grill grate of its own, it has Roasting Sticks in its line, they might seem a little bit pricey but due to the material they’re made of (304 Stainless Steel), they’re very durable and corrosion-resistant.

Fire Pit Lid & Cover

Breeo offers Breeo Double Flame Lid for covering your fire pit, Solo Stove on the other hand offers the Solo Stove Cover for protecting the fire pit. Although I compiled the two accessories in one section, contrary to what people think, they’re not exactly the same.

Breeo Double Flame Lid can be used for two purposes:

  • For protecting the stove from rain, although they’re made of corrosion-resistant material it’s good for the longevity of the fire pit to be protected from bad weather conditions
  • Safety, when you’re done with the fire pit you can just close the lid and go back home without thinking about the running fire at your backyard

And here comes to plot twist: 19″ Breeo Double Flame Lid is compatible with Solo Stove Bonfire as well.

Solo Stove Protective Fire Pit Cover on the other hand, is only used for one purpose:

Solo Stove Fire Pit Cover protects your stove by covering every inch of the pit from bad weather condition.

  • Protecting your stove from rain and other bad weather conditions, since it’s not made of heavy-duty material like Breeo Double Flame Lid it can only be used after the fire is put out, but the advantage of this cover is, it’s a full cover, it doesn’t only protect the inside of the fire pit it covers every inch of the pit.

Frequently Asked Questions About Breeo & Solo Stove

Can you pour water on Solo Stove?

You shouldn’t use water to put down the fire of Solo Stove, you should wait until the fire goes out, one way to speed up the process is covering the top of the stove with a lid, unfortunately, Solo Stove doesn’t feature a lid but since Breeo Double Flame Lid sits perfectly to the Solo Stove you can use Breeo Lid for that purpose.

Can you put Solo Stove on a deck?

Since the Solo Stoves have a raised ash pan, their bottom surface gets roughly up to 150 degrees. But that amount of heat can still damage heat-sensitive surfaces, if you’re thinking of putting your Solo Stove on a deck, you should purchase the Solo Stove Stand as well, and, always place your Solo Stove on non-combustible surfaces.

Can Breeo and Solo Stove get rained on?

You shouldn’t leave your stoves outdoors undercovered, getting rained on or other bad weather conditions can cause rusting and it would affect the longevity of your stove.

Can you use charcoal in a solo stove?

Solo Stove clearly explains in their instructions (you can see it here) that their Firepits are designed for using firewood logs for fuel only, Solo Stove Firepits may not function properly with any other fuel sources.

It’s worth noting that you shouldn’t use gasoline or any other flammable vapors/liquids in the vicinity of Solo Stove Fire Pits as well.

History of Breeo and Solo Stove

Solo Stove History

Solo Stove Products, such as Solo Stove Yukon, won numerous awards due to their unique designs.

The USA based company has entered the market in 2010 with only one unique and straightforward cooking stove. Over the years the brand has increased its product range very much. Now it makes grills, stoves, fire pits, and even apparels.

Due to their unique design, the Solo Stove products won numerous awards from big outdoor magazines, including the gear of the year award from 50 Campfires and Section Hiker.

A company that started in 2010 with only one cooking stove in its product line is now the first brand that pops into mind when talking about smokeless stoves and fire pits.

Breeo History

Breeo Double Flame 19" is made with sturdy design from an American company based in Lancaster/Pennsylvania.

Breeo is an American company based in Lancaster / Pennsylvania that has built their very first Smokeless Fire Pit way back in 2011.

Over the years Breeo didn’t expand its product range as much as Solo Stove, it has a niche product line that is mainly focused on fire pits and fire pit equipment for cooking such as portable grills.

Although the Brand is not as popular as Solo Stove, with its American-made sturdy design it’s definitely the second biggest brand in the market when it comes to smokeless fire pits.
